Yes. PVD adds a thin coating layer to the surface, so it should be considered when machining components with tight dimensional or fit requirements.
The dimensional effect depends on the coating system and coating thickness. External dimensions may increase slightly, while internal holes or threads may effectively become smaller.
For non-critical decorative surfaces, this may not be significant. However, for precision holes, threaded features, sliding surfaces or mating components, the coating thickness and masking strategy should be considered before machining.
For this reason, PVD requirements should be included in the RFQ and drawing whenever dimensional control after coating is important.
